I am sat on a path with a comb in my hand,
Made myself nice I teased every strand.
I buttoned the bag that serves as my coat,
Tied a cloth neat at my throat.
I sit very still to not cause alarm
Smiling, for I wish you no harm.
This is my home the space by a door,
It’s where I live because I am poor.
I won’t force your gaze upon my face
as you pass me by with heads low in case.
I sit on the path with my comb in my hand
I am Wishing you didn’t
have your head in the sand.

Beautiful poem. It’s sad that so many can’t see beyond outward appearance.

I am trying to show how we look but don’t see, like when some… most people answer without hearing the words between. Thanks Bernadette.

Poignant and so very touching. Consider how we react when we see a homeless or poor person(s). Maybe we can learn better manners?

I don’t think anything was incorrect in your writing, it just has to be understood differently. in case (as to prevent eye to eye contact in case the homeless person raised their head to make contact with another human being.) I felt it was very well written and indeed poignant. As is being poor isn’t bad enough, someone avoiding basic human contact with a homeless or poor person just shows their lack of basic human respect.
well done, and touching, too.

You can’t always prevent your status in life, but everyone should conduct themselves with basic manners and courtesies as depicted in your words.

It’s small but I would suggest you make a change to: “….with heads lower case….” i.e. not Capital in its notions…?
